2 Thessalonians 3:16-18
v16: Pray that the Lord will give us His peace, that is, “peace with God, peace in [our] own minds and consciences, peace among [ourselves], and peace with all people,” and His presence, for “we need nothing more to make us safe and happy, nor can we wish anything better for ourselves and our friends than to have God’s gracious presence with us and them.” If “it is the presence of God that makes heaven heaven,” then “the same presence will make this earth like heaven,” so that “if God is with us, it does not matter where we are” and “it does not matter who is absent if [He] is present with us.”
v17: The apostle Paul made sure that all the churches he wrote to knew that the letter he wrote was from him so that they “would not be deceived by false letters.” We can have that same assurance about the whole of Scripture today because not only is the canon of Scripture complete, it has also been “preserved pure and uncorrupt through many successive ages by the wonderful and special care of divine Providence.”
v18: To enjoy peace with God and the presence of God, we need the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, because He is the One who brings near those who were once far away.
