The Big Read – Daily Read
2 Thessalonians 3:14-15
v14: Caution is required when it comes to church discipline for sins such as laziness and being busybodies. Before proceeding there must be sufficient proof as to “whether a person who is suspected or charged with not obeying the word of God, or with living against it, is doing so.” When withdrawing from them and not keeping company with them is required, remember that the reason for this is “first, to avoid learning their evil ways, for those who follow and associate with worthless and lazy people are in danger of becoming like them,” and “second… they may become ashamed of their conduct and lead more orderly, or consistent, lives.”
v15: The motivation for church discipline is always love. They are not enemies and must not be treated as such. We warn them so that they will repent and “regain their reputation, their encouragement, and their right to church privileges as brothers and sisters.”
