The Big Read – Daily Read
v1-6: Jesus explained a portion of Scripture with great clarity on the Sabbath. On the Lord’s Day at local churches, “the word of God is to be preached, following Christ’s example. We give glory to God by receiving instruction from him.”
v7-13: Two are better than one. “They went two by two to a place, so that out of the mouth of two witnesses every word would be established, and so that they would be company for one another when they were among foreigners and could strengthen each other’s hands and encourage each other’s hearts. They could also help each other keep their composure if anything went wrong.”
v14-29: John the Baptist was held in great esteem by Herod. People can have great interest in the things of God, yet remain bad themselves and perish eternally.
v30-44: “Christ takes notice of the fears of some of his disciples and the hard work of other disciples, and he provides suitable help for both, rest for those who are tired and refuge for those who are afraid. The Lord understands our body; he knows how we are formed, and so he not only allows us time to rest but also reminds us that we need rest.”
v45-56: It is encouraging to know that when God’s people are in the middle of life’s storms, Christ is on the heavenly mountain interceding for them. As well as interceding for us, He is with us, and His presence with us is enough to take away our fears and give us real joy.
