The new kids CD from Sovereign Grace, To Be Like Jesus, is now available to buy.  I’ve got a copy and one first listen it is pretty good (disclaimer, I was a fan of their last CD Awesome God’).

To Be Like Jesus contains twelve worship songs that teach the fruit of the Spirit in a creative and memorable way.  Through these songs kids will learn that Jesus is our perfect example of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. More than that, they’ll discover that we can’t be like Jesus unless we trust in the power of his cross to forgive us and the power of his Spirit to change us.

Here’s a list of the songs, and the corresponding fruit of the Spirit (some are fairly obvious):

  1. To Be Like Jesus
  2. Because You First Loved Me (Love)
  3. Joy
  4. Peace
  5. Gotta Wait (Patience)
  6. You Show Me Kindness (Kindness)
  7. Nothing Better Than Jesus
  8. Jesus, You’re My Hope (Self-Control)
  9. Good and Gracious (Goodness)
  10. Make me Faithful (Faithfulness)
  11. Give me Self-Control
  12. Gentle Like Jesus (Gentleness)

And Bob Kauflin gives 5 reasons for another kid’s CD.

  • We think there’s a need for more children’s songs that aren’t simply adult songs with kid’s voices.
  • We’d like to see more kid’s songs that proclaim truth rather than express love for God, which many children don’t have yet.
  • We wanted kids to see that God wants us to be joyful, loving, faithful, gentle, etc., because that’s the way he is.
  • We also wanted kids to see that it’s impossible to be joyful, loving, faithful, gentle, etc. apart from believing the gospel and being empowered by God’s Spirit.
  • We wanted to serve children’s ministries and families who are looking for contemporary worship songs that teach for kids.
