“To all who are weary and need rest,
To all who mourn and long for comfort,
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God cares,
To all who fail and desire strength,
To all who sin and need a Saviour.
This church opens wide her doors with a welcome from Jesus Christ,
The Ally of his enemies, the Defender of the guilty, the Justifier of the inexcusable, the Friend of sinners.

“As Spurgeon climbed the stairs, he did so with the slow, methodical steps of a heavy-set man. Far heavier, though, was the enormous responsibility that he felt. Knowing that he was about to preach to the thousands gathered and to multiplied thousands through the printed page, the gravity of the moment weighed greatly on him.
Therefore, on each of the fifteen steps, Spurgeon silently declared to himself a personal confession of faith: “I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the Holy Spirit.”
