Field Notes – 5/9/T
“One advantage of hymnals was folks could hold a canon of songs in their hands. Now the canon (if there is one) is hidden behind the screen.” (Matt Merker)
I’m looking forward to singing this new hymn soon at Banstead Community Church – O Spirit, lift our eyes to Jesus.
“How do you ‘do’ pastoral care? Is it something that requires training? A hospital placement? A degree in theology? A specific calling?
These things can be helpful.
But I reckon much of it comes down to two things: curiosity (being interested in the person you’re with) – and compassion.”
“Hymenaeus and Philetus once sat in leaders meetings.
Demas once loved the world to come.
Judas heard all Jesus’ sermons.
Beware of drifting.”
“One of the greatest hurts a pastor feels is when people leave the church and never say goodbye.” (Buck Parsons)
