Last Sunday’s Songs at Banstead Community Church: 1) Jesus, the Name high over all; 2) King of the Ages; 3) Now why this fear and unbelief?; 4) 10,000 reasons; 5) Guide me O Thou great Jehovah.
It was great to see Chris Fry, who had just finished 2 years training at Banstead Community Church, inducted as Associate Pastor of Cheam Baptist Church yesterday. I was asked to pray for him and his ministry there.
Our Lord and our God,
We thank you that the church is so precious to you that you have bought her with the precious blood of your Son, Jesus Christ.
That she is so precious that He would sacrifice everything, His own self, to save His people who were lost and rebellious and to bring them safely to be with Him in heaven.
We thank you that the risen and exalted Jesus, continues to show His love for the church by giving to her the gift of pastor-teachers, people who will keep watch and shepherd His people.
And it thrills our hearts this morning to recognise and affirm His gift to this local church of Chris – and we pray now for Him and His ministry here.
We pray that with the help of your Spirit, He would set an example in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity to the members of this church.
That He would devote Himself to prayer, the public reading of Scripture, and to preaching and to teaching.
That He would correctly handle Your Word and use it to instruct, correct, rebuke, and encourage with great care and patience.
May progress be seen in each of these areas as he gives himself wholly to these things.
Give to Chris the strength to handle the pressures of ministry, the wisdom he needs to apply your Word to the most confusing situations, and the trust that Scripture is sufficient to thoroughly equip him for every aspect of His ministry.
Protect him from Satan’s temptations and from the deceitfulness of sin. From depending upon his own gifting rather than your grace.
Keep him close to you, growing in holiness and faithful to the precious truths found in Your Word.
Help him to love and lead Anna and his children, Lucy, Chloe, Sophie, Rosie and Amy.
Increase His love for the members of this church and the community in which You have placed him, and his willingness to share his life with them.
And we pray that with your mighty power would equip and enable Chris as best as he can, to show the wonder of the cross, and hold out the offer of forgiveness and eternal life to all who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ.
So that when He, our Chief Shepherd appears, Chris will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away.
We ask these things for the glory of Your Name, the joy of Your people here in Cheam, and the salvation of the lost.
“Systematic theology is the conclusion you draw once all the other disciplines have been utilised and integrated.” (Pete Sanlon)
“Sin can certainly lead us to be workaholics, and we burn ourselves or our people out. But it can also lead to the opposite, a poor work ethic… As a church leader you often do a lot of the work outside of the view of your people, and that can be a temptation toward doing less and just trying to look busy.” (Ed Stetzer)
Bob Kauflin has put together a 12 sessions training course as a supplement to his book Worship Matters. All the videos and outlines are HERE.
“I have always found it striking that out of all the things Paul could have said, he chose to emphasise preaching.
God’s people, it seems, are desperately in need of preaching.
They may not even know it but the Word regularly explained and applied is the means of equipping them for doing works of service.”
