The Big Bible Adventure – Acts 1:8
Powerpoint Pictures: Examples of Guinness World Records
The Guinness Book of Records has some strange world records. Here are a few of them. Can you guess what the world records are for the following things? [e.g. Number of pint glasses balanced on a chin; Most number of T-Shirts worn at once; Heaviest hamburger on sale]
These things are pretty incredible, aren’t they?
But they are not the most incredible thing of all. The most amazing thing to happen is Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. This was something that had never happened before, and has not happened since.
If you had seen Him alive with your own two eyes, what would have done?
What are Jesus’ disciples going to do with this news that Jesus is alive?
What does Jesus want them to do?
He wants them to tell others about Him. That He is alive. That He is the Saviour of the World.
How will they do this?
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Jesus says they needed two things:
They needed power. Jesus was going to give them His Holy Spirit to help them tell people about Him.
But that wasn’t all they needed. They also needed a plan to do this. Jesus tells them to start telling people about Him in Jerusalem, and then once they’ve done that, to move out to Judea and Samaria, and then to keep moving on to next places until the ends of the earth have heard the good news about Him.
Yet for this to happen, someone had to leave first. Who was that?
