“The threefold instruction – “Feed my lambs” (John 21:15), “Take care of my sheep” (John 21:16), and “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17) – highlights three principal areas of pastoral care.
The young – both in age and in faith – are to be carefully fed (v15);
all Christians require general pastoral care (v16);
and established Christians need to progress toward maturity (v17)…
A shepherd’s priority is to lead his flock into green pastures; and that is his principal task in handling the Scriptures. He is to enlarge the flock’s understanding of the faith so that they may render a better obedience to Christ…
Every time we teach, it is appropriate to ask, “Am I providing good pasture for God’s flock?”
