If the church is going to reach the whole world with the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, it is going to need to be able to contextualise – to adapt its language and style – so that people from different backgrounds and cultures can understand this good news.
Many people living in the UK today are from an Asian background, and the question is, ‘How can they be reached with the gospel?’, especially when many believe that Christianity is a western religion.
To help with this task, a new resource has been developed by the South Asian Forum of the Evangelical Alliance, called Discovering Jesus through Asian Eyes that comprises of an outreach booklet and course.
Jesus through Asian Eyes is a brilliantly produced 32-page booklet which, alongside testimonies from those who have already put their trust in Christ, answers 16 frequently asked questions about Jesus, Christianity and faith in God.
Discovering Jesus through Asian Eyes is an 8 week course where these questions can be explored further.
Whilst the booklet is primarily designed to give away to anyone from an Asian background, I would definitely recommend Christians from a non-Asian background reading it too.
I found it really useful both in order to better understand the kind of questions they ask, but also how you might begin to go about answering them.
