“For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.” (Ezra 7:10)
How did Ezra teach the Word?
“They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.” (Nehemiah 8:8)
- Reverence for the Word: “His heart was gripped with deep seated reverence for the Scriptures.”
- Reading the Word: “Before the Word was explained, it was introduced to the minds of the listeners through its public reading.”
- Restating the Word: “Ezra gave ‘the sense’ of the passage, thus helping his hearers understand the text.”
