Does your mind wander when you pray? When you read the Bible? When you listen to the preaching of God’s Word? When you sit down to prepare a sermon? When you…?
Thomas Watson is right when he says that “these wandering thoughts are like unwelcomed guests” at a party; as soon as they are spotted, they need to be kicked out.
Where do these wandering thoughts come from?
- Our sinfulness.
- Satan, “if he cannot hinder us from duty, will hinder us in duty”
- The World.
How do we get rid of them?
- By fixing your eyes on God’s purity.
- By remembering how important the duties of prayer, Bible reading and so on are.
- By removing the things hindering us from loving God completely because “the thoughts of a man who is in love are on the person he loves, and nothing can distract them”.
