On the iPod: John Blanchard – “God is for us”

on-the-ipod

Over the last three Sunday evenings at Banstead Community Church, John Blanchard has preached a series about what he says is the single greatest truth the Bible records on the subject of prayer – “God is for us”.  From Romans 8, he has encouraged us to pray by showing that ‘The Father is for us’, ‘The Spirit is for us”, and ‘The Son is for us’.

What does the Bible say about… Abortion?

What does the Bible say about… Abortion?

Last Thursday, Jeremy Hobson came and spoke at the midweek meeting of Banstead Community Church (where I work) on the topic ‘What does the Bible say about… Abortion?

It was a helpful talk where Jeremy showed that abortion makes no sense legally, ethically, emotionally or biblically.  This led to a couple of conclusions, the importance of preventing intentional harm to the foetus and a reminder of the forgiveness that God offers people who have made mistakes in this area.  Following the talk there was a question and answer time.

You can listen to this talk HERE.  The accompanying powerpoint is HERE.

Jeremy Hobson is a former general surgeon, who now leads JC-PM a church plant of St Helen’s Bishopgate.  He trained for ministry at Oak Hill Theological College where he wrote his dissertation on ‘Psalm 139 and the ethics of abortion’.  He is married with two children.

Through the British Museum with the Bible

Last night at my church‘s midweek meeting Brian Edwards gave a fascination talk or should I say tour through the British Museum with the Bible.  Starting with Abraham and finishing with the time of the early church, Brian showed us that there are many items on display in the British Museum that back up the events written about in the Bible and can help us to understand the Bible better.

The talk is available to listen to HERE, and also Brian has co-authored a book (available HERE) with Clive Anderson which cover the material in talk plus more.  I definitely plan at some stage to get a copy of the book and take it with me to the British Museum.
